November is world vegan month. It’s hard to believe that nearly six years have passed since I became a vegan. It all started with a simple glance at a tube station poster about trying a plant based diet for a month. This sparked a curiosity that eventually led to a transformative lifestyle change.
Back then, my knowledge of veganism was minimal, and like many, I harboured concerns about getting enough protein on a plant-based diet. Little did I know that this lifestyle shift would not only debunk that myth but also open my eyes to the profound impact it has on our planet.
One of the most common misconceptions about veganism is the belief that it’s challenging to get enough protein without animal products. Let me assure you, after nearly six years as a vegan, I’m not protein deficient, and I’m thriving. Plant-based sources like beans, lentils, tofu, quinoa, and nuts are not only rich in protein but also packed with essential nutrients that contribute to overall well-being …and they taste so good!
The truth is, many plant-based foods provide a complete protein profile, and with a well-balanced diet, meeting your protein needs is not only possible but enjoyable. Plus, the variety of flavours and textures in plant-based meals continually surprise and delight my taste buds!
Now, let’s talk about the planet. Did you know animal farming is a big deal when it comes to messing up our environment? It causes deforestation, greenhouse gases, and water pollution. So, by going vegan, I’m not just doing my body good—I’m helping the planet too. By choosing a plant-based diet, I’ve reduced my carbon footprint and contributed to a more sustainable future. It’s like being a superhero for Earth!
If going vegan sounds too much, then why not try flexitarianism? It’s like finding a middle ground where you still make the planet happy without changing everything right away. It’s all about recognising the power we hold as consumers to influence positive change. We can actively take part in the movement towards a more environmentally conscious and compassionate world.
Let’s unite in our efforts, understanding that together, we can make a difference.
Here’s to many more years of growth, learning, and positive change!
With green vibes!
