Long overdue!
Well, this blog post has been a long time coming! You’d think writing a blog about writing would be easy, wouldn’t you? Apparently not…
I’ve been working away on a new story, but something just wasn’t clicking. I tinkered, tweaked and probably over-thought things (as writers do), until I discovered… the Golden Egg Academy!
The Golden Egg Academy is a wonderful group of editors and educators who specialise in children’s books. They help you dig deep into your story, spot those sneaky plot holes and work out what’s really going on with your characters. And that’s just the beginning!
I’ve met some fascinating people, made lots of lovely new friends and learned so much about my writing. So, no excuses for the next novel, then!
One of the biggest revelations has been looking more closely at my characters. I’ve spent time analysing my protagonist, and now it’s the antagonist’s turn. To be honest, I hadn’t given him quite so much thought when I first started writing the story. But what a difference it’s made! He’s gone from being a slightly cartoonish baddie to a much more believable character. After all, even the villains need a little depth!
I want this book to be the very best it can be, so I’m busy polishing, tweaking and generally trying to make every word earn its place. There’s still work to do, but I’m feeling much more positive about it.
Watch this space!
And, because reading is just as important as writing (at least, that’s my excuse!), I’m currently reading The Heartseer by Rowan Foxwood. I’m really enjoying it so far.
I’m always on the lookout for my next book, so feel free to suggest any you’re reading and enjoying.
Happy reading, everyone!
