Hello 2026!

Hello!

A lot has happened since I last posted! We’ve had the festive season (a late Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, and a very Happy New to everyone!)

Lately, I’ve been working on “plotting” — yes, me. Plotting. I know. Shocking. I’m a total pantser, but I’ve discovered a way that works for me: writing the story first and then plotting it afterwards. It’s not an exact science by any means, but it’s been surprisingly helpful.

It involves creating a backstory that doesn’t necessarily appear on the page, but is absolutely essential for making my fantasy world feel real and lived-in. We’re talking geopolitics and history here — impressed yet? I’ve also been digging deeper into my characters, getting to know not just what happens to them, but how they change on the inside as their journey unfolds.

On top of that, I’ve split the story into acts to pinpoint where the real climax sits, which has led me to rethink a few scenes and shuffle things around.

I don’t usually analyse my work this closely, and there’s always the danger of tipping into overthinking. But for now, it feels like it’s helping me iron out those niggly bits — the parts that don’t quite work, or only work a little too conveniently without good reason.

There’s still lots to do, but I’m up for it — all for the greater good of my readers!

And finally, it is Veganuary, so if you can, try slipping a few vegan dishes into your week. It’s a small thing, but every little helps the planet.

More writing updates soon — and thank you, as always, for reading and supporting my writing journey.

Yonnie x
